Why Ratzo Rescue Is Closing:

March 1, 2008
This has been a really hard decision for me. I love rats more than anything. I believe in quality, personable, well socialized rattie's. Everyone who comes to my rescue is delighted with their new furkins. Since I have posted that I shall be closing down I have received over 100 emails asking me why and please don't close.

I would gladly stay open, however no one has been donating and now my finances are depleted. I love the way people come here to adopted and then don't donate a darn thing. This whole rescue is "out of pocket" no one helps me. Now wouldn't it be a miracle if there was a rich rat lover or donator who loved rats as much as I do who would wanna see my rescue stay open? I can only wish & pray.

This whole situation pains me to death. I am pretty sure I am the only rescue in Upstate NY and yet no one cares. I didn't start this rescue with the intent of making money, I started it because I love rats and I wanted to save their lives (and give them spitty whiskers by kissing them tooooo much!) - but I can't do this alone.

I'm so hurt by this whole situation I can barely type.

I, yet still, receive emails from people asking me to re-open. Oddly enough, they dont wanna donate or even offer to. So, here is my answer to:
1. Why i closed
2. Why i will not take your rats in
3. why i will not re-open till things change, etc.

The reason why I am temporarily closed is no one has donated, anything!
As well, people call me all the time and ask me to take in rats and tons of rat babies for free, no one ever wants to pay the surrender fee. They keep saying "this is a rescue, and I shouldn't have to pay a rescue to take my rats" well, since so many people think that way, I go broke and do not have money to feed the gazillions of rats that people surrender to me. Then it all comes out of my pocket and takes money away from my bills and then I am in a pickle.
I am sorry, but every one wants something for free and I'm tired of it. Every one wants me to help them but then they don't care about me and my situation. Its hard to run a rescue on zero donations! I try to do a good thing and help rats and all I get is taken advantage of because I feel so sorry for the little critters.
Well, I'm done! People are so irresponsible and breed their rats because they think babies are cute and don't give me "it was an accident" bull crap, but then they don't think they will have to be responsible and find them homes. So they do the wimpy way out and mysteriously leave a box of babies on my porch and when the porch is locked they just leave them outside on the stoop because no one wants to pay a small surrender fee to make sure they are taken care of.
I have ran this rescue for over 5 years now and all I have run into is 90% of people want to leave me their rats and run. Then the funny thing is, now I get a ton of emails asking me the same stupid question "why did you close down?" well, its because EVERYONE WANTS SOMETHING FOR NOTHING!
Geepers, donate and help me stay open. I love rats more than anything, and I look at their sad little furry faces and I wanna die. This whole situation kills me, but I have to finally stand up or I will be homeless like the poor rats I try to rescue.
I don't mean to sound like I am venting, maybe I am, I just have to put my foot down and finally say NO! Unless people are going to help me out and stop expecting something for nothing I will NOT re-open.
Hollie

If you would like to make a donation so I could re-open or stay open make checks & money orders out to: Hollie Taggart. I need an estimated 300.00 a month to stay open and treat my rattie's like they deserve. People who donate 20.00 or more will be posted below.

Please Remember:
1. If you have previously adopted rats from us, you can always call us for help, advice, etc.
2. If you have put down a deposit on a rattie, we are holding your furkins until you come pick it up. We are not disappearing off the face of the earth!
3. This web site and all its content are copyrighted.
**The site will remain up and interactive until the final decision is made.
4. You can still send photos and testimonials, they will be posted as usual.
