F.A.Q

1. If I don't have a ride will you come pick me up?

- Usually we have your human drop you off to us. We are very busy people taking care of all the other critters here. In certain circumstances we will come to pick you up if this is a complete emergency - but be nice - gas prices are horrible! We prefer to stay in Monroe and Livingston Counties, however we have driven as far as Chamung County and farther. We have even arranged to meet half way.

2. What if I have socialization problems? Do you still want me?

- All domestic rats are welcome at Ratzo Rescue.

3. I'm pregnant or just had babies and have no place to go. My human family doesn't want my many children. Help!

- That's ok. We will take you and you new ratzo family, feed you well, snuggle you much and when it comes time, adopt your babies out to a loving home. Remember, there is a $5.00 per critter surrender fee.

4. I hear you have cats and dogs, will they eat me?

- The cats and dogs here are so pampered that a live meal is very unappealing to them. Allot of our rats run around the desk and even chase some of the cats.

5. Will you ship a rat out of state?

- NO! For many reasons it is an unwise idea. DO NOT even ask.

6. Will you house wild rats or rats that humans have found?

- NO. We are sorry to say that. Wild rats could have a meriod of problems, health, social, etc. However, if you have found a wild animal (bird, snake, turtle, oppossum, etc.) in need we will accept wild - injured animals. Once again, we are a Licensed Wildlife Rehab Station.

7. I'm not a rat, but can I come live there anyhow?

- On occasions we will accept rabbits, birds, reptiles and even ferrets. Coming here is better than the alternative. Once again, there is a surrender fee of $5.00 per critter surrendered.

8. Do humans have to pay to adopt us? Why?

- YES. Humans have to pay for many reasons, 1. Because we have housed and fed you and the money from adoptions shall go to feeding and housing other furry friends. 2. All rodents are variably priced , we price them high to ensure you will go to a loving family and not become snake food.

9. Are we returnable?

- Yes. Once again, all domestic rats & critters who originally came from here are welcome back here.

10. Are you a non profit organization?

Not officially as of yet. This rescue originally started as a hobby and is growing quick. But we are working on official status. We are however, OFFICIALLY a licensed wildlife rehabilitation station.

11. If I was to move into Ratzo Rescue what's on the menu?

- Here at Ratzo Rescue you get the best, daily meals consist of parrot blend, rat fortified diet, rat blocks, Eukanuba puppy chow, cat dental diet (for clean fresh teeth), rainbow rotini, sunflower seeds. For snacks and deserts you will receive any and or all of the following: peanuts in the shells, cheerios (yogurt covered strawberry or vanilla) or honey nut, shredded wheat, cheese fish crackers, Eukanuba puppy biscuits, apples, pears, squash, pop cycles, yogies, raisins, various cereals, various fruits and veggies, Mc Donald's Double Cheese Burger Party (on the last day of every month I buy 30 double cheese burgers, fries, and shakes - pig out kids it's fun!!!) split between you and some other house mates (not too often, you have to keep your figure). We have Ratzo Pizza parties once a month - please be polite and don't hog the cheese! There is tons more goodies you shall receive, but why spoil the surprise by telling you here? LOL

12. My family has no choice but to give me up, can they come and see where I would be living?

-Yes! We welcome humans here. But please don't mind our mess, we are currently in the middle of remodeling. All ratzo's have been moved to an almost finished attic (where our office is located) the ceiling and walls are up, all we have left is a floor and some paint and we shall be the bomb! However all your rattie homes have mini houses, toys, food and water - so i don't think you will mind our mess. Plus, we have music and TV to watch if you get bored. And on hot days you will be able to take a luxurious swim in our bathtub and sip lemonade at your leisure!

13. What are some reasons why a rattie would be turned away?

- Usually no rattie's are ever turned away. You have to be a domestic rat. You have to be free of any diseases. The only other reason why we would turn a rattie away is that if you were coming to us with no cage, no donations for us to attain you a cage or you are sick. Allot of humans want to surrender their furry friend to us but don't want to give us the cage, space is limited here and its hard on our pocket to keep buying cages.

14. Where would my babies go when they are old enough to be away from mom? Do sell to pet stores?

- NO WAY! Pet stores don't care who buys their animals, they just care that they sell them. We could not in good conscious sell your babies to a pet store. However we do deal with one reputable pet store who will post our signs for babies for adoption (but the babies stay here till a suitable human is found). Its sad to know that humans will buy cute furry little critters and use them as food instead of loving companions. BAH HUMBUG to those people!

15. I have a very large tumor, will you still take me in?

- Yes. Tumors are commin in rattie's, sad but true. Some are bad and some just look bad. But just think, there is more of you to love! From time to time we will get a discount at the vet and if you are young and healthy we will have it removed. We are sorry we can not remove all tumors, but we are seriously lacking donations.

16. I am very old, no human no longer wants me or is able to take care of me, can I come to Ratzo Rescue to live out my last days spoiled and peaceful?

-Yes. Sad question. Elderly rats need love too. If you are an only rat we will put you in with other elderly rats so you have company of your own age. You can sit back and talk about the old days and when you were young and getting into trouble, you can share stories, treats and snuggle together till its time to walk rainbow bridge. You will then be buried in our garden to sleep with blooming beauty.

17. How old is my rat in human years?

- According to RatBehavior.org each rat month is roughly equivalent to 2.5 human years. A fun site to visit is "Oh, Rats!"

18. I like your web site, but is there a more informative one out there?

Yes - click here.
But that's not the only one. Go to our "Links" page and you will find a bunch of nifty places to visit.

19. I have critters at my home that I would like to find homes for, but I do not want to turn them over to Ratzo Rescue. Could you do a courtesy listing on your site to help me find a home for my pet?

Yes - anything to help critters in need. Just email us some photos and contact info and we will post your listing on our Adoptables page for one month.

20. Why did you guys raise your adoption fee's?

It's not easy taking care of so many critters, you have to keep them clean, happy, well fed, played with to keep them social, etc. since people were not donating enough for us to keep the high standards we claim and desire we had to raise our fee's. Also, we have received many emails from people saying our fee's were to cheap and they were worried that the critters wouldn't go to good homes. Thus - we raised our fee's.
